The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program provides rebates for renewable
energy systems used in 'off-grid' areas, renewable energy systems used in
'fringe of grid' areas and energy efficiency projects in off-grid areas. The objectives of the program are to: help provide an effective electricity supply to remote users assist the development of the Australian renewable energy industry help meet the energy infrastructure needs of indigenous communities lead to long term greenhouse gas reductions. The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program is an Australian Government funded initiative. Funding for the program is based on the diesel fuel excise paid for public generation in off-grid areas of each State over four years from 2000/01 to 2003/04. The total funding available to Western Australia is $95.6 million. The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program is managed by the Australian Government's Australian Greenhouse Office. In Western Australia the program is administered by the State Government's Sustainable Energy Development Office. The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program includes various sub-programs targeting different types or sizes of renewable energy systems and energy efficiency projects. Funding is also available for large renewable energy power systems and for industry support projects. Remote Area Power Supply Program The Remote Area Power Supply Program provides rebates for renewable energy power systems serving homes, pastoral stations, farms, tourist operations, government facilities and Aboriginal communities in 'off-grid' areas of Western Australia. Renewable Energy Water Pumping Program The Renewable Energy Water Pumping Program provides rebates for renewable energy based pumps supplying water to farms, pastoral stations, towns and communities in regional areas of Western Australia. More info... Regional Energy Efficiency Program The Regional Energy Efficiency Program provides incentives for households, businesses, government organisations and other organisations in areas outside of the South West electricity grid to save energy. More info... Rural Renewable Energy Program The Rural Renewable Energy Program provides rebates for grid-connect renewable energy power systems serving homes, businesses, government organisations and other organisations in specific 'fringe of grid' areas of the South West electricity grid. More info... Large individual projects off-grid Rebates are available for large renewable energy based power systems (with a rebate value greater than $500,000) replacing fossil fuel based power systems in 'off-grid' areas. Funding applications for large projects have to be individually assessed and approved by both the State and Australian Governments. Industry support projects Industry support projects that help improve the capabilities of the local renewable energy industry and increase understanding amongst renewable energy system users are recognised as being important in meeting the objectives of the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program. Funding is available for industry support projects that relate directly to the use of renewable energy systems in off-grid and fringe of grid areas, including training, information provision, equipment testing and the development of standards. Outcomes of the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program Since its introduction in 2001, the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program has supported hundreds of renewable energy power systems, renewable energy water pumping systems and energy efficiency projects in regional areas of Western Australia.
