SEDO Grants Program

Decorative map of Western AustraliaThe Sustainable Energy Development Office (SEDO) Grants Program provides funding for innovative sustainable energy projects in Western Australia.

The program is part of the State Government's commitment to increasing the uptake of renewable energy and energy efficient products and practices.

The program provides grants of up to $50,000 for community-based sustainable energy projects and sustainable energy research and development projects.

Grants are awarded to projects that best meet the objectives of the program, which include:

Community-based projects
To help householders to reduce fossil fuel energy use
To raise community awareness of ways to reduce energy use and increase the use of renewable energy.

Research and development projects
To assist the research and development of innovative sustainable energy products, services, installations and practices
To support the development of the Western Australian sustainable energy industry.

All projects:
To lead to the long-term reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Western Australia.

Community projects

Community projects must involve at least one of the following activities to be eligible for funding:
Initiatives that assist householders to increase their use of sustainable energy products
Initiatives that encourage behavioural change to adopt sustainable energy practices, such as workshops and other education programs
Public awareness raising activities, such as information dissemination, demonstration projects and public displays
Home energy audits
Other innovative activities that encourage sustainable energy use in the community.

All other eligibility requirements are set out in the relevant program guidelines (see below).

Research and development projects

Research and development projects must involve at least one of the following activities to be eligible for funding under the SEDO Grants Program:
Research that assists groups of Western Australian energy consumers or suppliers to increase their use of renewable energy or adoption of energy efficiency
Research and development of new and innovative sustainable energy products, services or individual installations
Research that assists the development of the wider sustainable energy industry in Western Australia.

All other eligibility requirements are set out in the relevant program guidelines (see below).

Application process

To apply for a grant, you must:
1. Read the relevant project guidelines:
Guidelines for Community Projects (PDF 72 KB)

2. Complete the relevant application form:
Community Project Application Form (PDF 91 KB)
Research and Development Project Application Form (PDF 94 KB)

3. Submit your completed Application Form to sgc@energy.wa.gov.au before the close of the next funding round.

All information requested in the Application Form must be provided for SEDO to properly assess the application.

Assessment process

All grant applications are assessed by SEDO through competitive funding rounds, with assistance provided by external specialists as required.

Applications must meet all of the eligibility requirements set out in the relevant program guidelines. Projects that meet these requirements are then evaluated against the assessment criteria set out in the guidelines.

Funding will be awarded to projects that are assessed as providing the greatest benefits and having the lowest risks.

Next funding round

SEDO has deferred the next funding round of the SEDO Grants Program due to staffing commitments related to the gas disruption. If you would like to be included on the SEDO Grants Program register, please send your details to sgc@energy.wa.gov.au.
